A Fun Weekend in NYC: New Things To See & Do in 2019

When my friend invited me to visit NYC during New York Fashion Week Fall 2019, I jumped at the opportunity to run around the city with one of my best friends like the good ole times. This was our 2nd girls’ trip to NYC and both of us have family roots in New York, so we were determined to visit new places and try new things that we hadn’t experienced before. At the core, this was a business trip for my friend; she was commissioned to photograph a show for emerging designers in the fashion world, but when we link up business still means FUN!
When my friend wasn’t working, we occupied our down time with checking out cool pop-up museums and eateries.
The first pop-up museum we visited was the Museum of Illusions. This museum has different interactive rooms, games, and puzzles to make you think twice about perception. This place is great for the young and old. We spent about an hour and a half hopping from room to room-it was kind of like being a part of a magic show, not to mention the pictures you can take at the Museum of Illusions are for Instagram heaven lol (see my Insta story here). Be sure to check out their website to see how long this museum will be in NYC.
The second pop-up museum we visited was The Color Factory. When I was in California two years ago, I was so disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to visit The Color Factory, but I was so happy and surprised to find out they set up shop in NYC during my visit! I could tell the creators of this exhibit took their time and really cared about putting together the best experience for visitors-the walk through of the museum flowed well, the interactive games and exercises were very cool, and they even gave out color-themed treats throughout the museum. I have to say, my favorite part of the museum was the blue-themed ball pit (I’m a big kid at heart)-I think my friend and I had more fun in the ball pit than the little ones running around lol I HIGHLY recommend The Color Factory, so be sure to visit their website for available tickets.
Visitor Tip: A great place to eat after your visit to The Color Factory is a small bar called Emmett’s. They have AWESOME deep dish pizza.
Before my trip to NYC, I came across this café called the, LRoom, on social media. What I saw was no ordinary latte and hot chocolate, the lattes looked like pure gold, so I knew I had to visit during my trip. We arrived to the LRoom at about 6pm and there was about a 20 minute wait due to the rising popularity, but we didn’t mind. My friend and I each ordered the Honey Gold Latte and we shared their signature Rose Garden Egg Waffle. The Honey Gold Latte made me feel so luxurious and the waffle was so pretty that we didn’t want to eat it lol but I’m glad we did because it was so tasty (I get my sweet tooth from my mom). I love the unique experience the LRoom is offering at their café and I predict their popularity will continue to rise.
On our last day in NYC, we visited The Top of the Rock, which is located on top of Rockefeller Center. This was both of our first time visiting The Top of The Rock and I’m so glad we decided to add something that may be typically viewed as “touristy” to our must-see list. We arrived at about 9:30am on a Monday, so it wasn’t crowded at all-we basically shared the view with only a few other visitors, which was perfect. The view of NYC from The Top of The Rock is absolutely breathtaking. We had a clear view of the Empire State Building, Central Park, and even spotted the Statue of Liberty.
Visitor Tip: The initial elevator stops at the 67th floor, but you can take another elevator or stairs up 3 more flights to the roof top of Rockefeller Center for an even more astonishing view of NYC.
I would definitely love to visit The Top of The Rock again when I’m in NYC, but during sunset. I imagine it would be a beautiful sight to see the sun resting over NYC’s skyline of buildings & skyscrapers. Be sure to visit The Top of The Rock’s website for ticket info.
This trip to New York City was a great start to my year. It’s something about being in NYC that inspires me and causes an empowering feeling to overcome me-being in New York makes me feel like I can take over the world. If this trip is a fraction of what’s to come of my travel adventures for 2019, then, I am more than excited to see what awaits me and I hope you come along for each adventure with Find & Journey.
