Experts predict that this summer season and beyond is expected to bring unprecedented traveler volumes as the world continues to move on from the screeching halt that was 2020 due to Covid-19.
With more travelers hitting the friendly skies via an airport near you, we can expect longer TSA lines.
Fortunately, there are paid programs that exist to help to ease our security line woes: TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, and Clear. In this article, I’ll provide a brief breakdown of each program to get you a head start on your travel goals!
TSA PreCheck
Departures from U.S. AirportsCost: New enrollment - $85 for 5 years
With pre check, you don’t need to remove shoes, laptops, 3-1-1liquids, belts, and light jackets in the special security line.
TSA PreCheck is available in the US at more than 200 airports and 81 airlines.
Global Entry
Entry into the U.S. from International Destinations
Travel by Air, Land and Sea
Cost: $100 for 5 years
Includes TSA PreCheck
Per cbp.gov, Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic kiosks at select airports. Travelers must be pre-approved for the Global Entry program. All applicants undergo a rigorous background check and in-person interview before enrollment.
Clear
Per thepointsguy.com, travelers who have enrolled in Clear have their own separate lane for the first step, where you can utilize biometric authentication (fingerprint or iris scan) at a kiosk rather than wait for a TSA agent to inspect your government ID and scribble something on your boarding pass.
After your identity has been verified, a Clear representative will escort you to the actual security screening, bypassing everyone waiting in the first line.
Clear is available at various airports across the United and select sports stadiums.
At the time of this article, Clear is $179 for 12 months.
All three programs, offer unique advantages for every traveler. I personally have TSA PreCheck and am heavily considering Global Entry as I hope to begin more international travel. Let us know in the comments if you have bought any program or if you’re looking to purchase one of this programs this year!
