Skipping school to travel may sound a bit harsh, but it's not that bad! I promise! If you do it the right way, you won’t miss a beat in class :)
First off, in other countries like Australia and New Zealand, it’s encouraged to their citizens to take a gap year. Don’t know what a “gap year” is? Basically, a gap year is a break after graduating from high school, before going to college/university, OR taking a break after graduating from college before starting a career. And, during this gap year, you travel the world! I know that is not the typical American way, BUT I think that it can be a great idea! Most students don’t even know what they want to do for the rest of their life after high school or college, and travel can be very helpful in FINDING YOURSELF.
Don’t get me wrong, school and education is very important, but living life is important too, and Travel is definitely education in itself; it presents you with so many opportunities to learn about yourself and the world around you.
However, if you are already in school, can’t afford to take a year off, or simply not into taking a full year off from school or starting your career, then here is how to do it while in school.
1. Know your school schedule!
You don't want to miss out on important information or assignments. If you stay on track in school from the start, then when it's time for your trip you won't fall behind while you’re away for a few days.
2. Plan trips ahead of time and give the faculty a heads up.
If you’re traveling during test week or midterms, then you can ask to take the test before you leave. Don't be egotistical—work with your school staff and show you care.
3. Stay focused during class, so you won't fall behind when you’re gone
If you do not understand a certain subject, make sure to take advantage of any tutoring opportunities your school may offer. You don’t want to go out of town knowing you’re going to fall even further behind or … FAIL :(
4. Know the school's policy
Know in advance how many days can be missed (don't overdue it). This will help while planning the trip to see how many days you can be absent.
5. Lastly, take important items with you!
Bring any notes, books, worksheets on the trip. Whether you are going on a road trip or flying away, you can use those travel hours in the car or on the plane to study or do homework. Use that down time wisely because we know you’re not going to study while you're trying to turn up lol
If you can follow these simple steps, then you can skip school to travel. Take it from me; I do this all the time! LMAO
Travelling and meeting new people has taught me so much and made me more independent. Don’t allow school *rolls eyes* to stop you! Take the leap and explore the world!
